Woman on an island.

It hurts to be on the island.

A blissful chance when things go right.
But when they go wrong,
Oh, when they go wrong,
it’s the woman on the island.

Woman, why are you so oblivious?
Woman, why don’t you see?
There is chaos enveloping you-
in front, behind, between-
Things are not as they should be
and it is you, woman, who is to blame.

Woman on an island.
Fighting for a way off
and for an escape from this damnation
from the outside and within.
Clawing for redemption, for peace.

Scrutinized.
Chastised.
Shamed.

It hurts,
this miserable island.
Paradise no more.
