Challenge.

Get up late. No coffee. Car won’t start.
You’re not fast enough to beat the traffic, they’d say.

Angry email. Angry voicemail. Angry memo.
You’re not good enough to have this job, they’d say.

“Get it together.” “Get a move on.” “Get on track.”
You’re not qualified enough to be doing this, they’d say.

Sass. Criticism. Defiance.
You’re not worthy enough to receive respect, they’d say.

A character challenged. A sense of safety disbanded. A rose-colored world with shade.
You’re not a role model, leader, captain, they’d say.

Pause.

Silence.

A moment to think. A reality tv reference. A hushed giggle.
You might be okay, you want to believe.

Drain of excess water.

Let rest overnight.

Observe tomorrow.
